A Vermont Whitetail Source of Childs E. Coli

A 7 year old child in Connecticut was diagnosed with Escherichia coli O157:H7 commonly known as E. Coli. The source was traced back to a Whitetail deer killed in Southern Vermont. This is the first known case of E.Coli. in wild Whitetail deer.

The young boys father shot the deer through the gut, after which it took 2 hours to track and locate the deer. During field dressing the gut cavity was not rinsed as is recommended.
The deer was hung outdoors for 2 days, outdoor temperatures during this time were 0°C-13°C.

Nice to see some things don't change

Scott Kavanagh

For at least the last 10 years I have been thinking about the Bowens deer camp every fall. I have been promising myself and the Bowens I would be back, and this year I finally made it.
I was pleasantly surprised to find little had changed. Some people may not appreciate how nice it is to be able to go back to visit old friends, and find things just as you remember them, but it was a relief to me. I had a great time with all my old hunting buddies, and met a few new ones as well. I had forgotten just how fun deer camp is, and I know now I will have to make it back more frequently.

Pogo Moose Incident - Fairbanks , Alaska

"They were laying new power cables which were strung on the ground for miles. The moose are rutting right now and very agitated. He was thrashing around and got his antlers stuck in the cables. When the men (miles away) began pulling the lines up with their big equipment, the moose went up with them. They noticed excess tension in the lines and went searching for the problem. He was still alive when they lowered him to the ground. He was a huge 60 inch bull and slightly peeved!"
